    Use this for a loose stone layer. Individual slabs, wall stones and boulders need piece counts or specific dimensions.

    Confirm grading and moisture conditions with the supplier before converting volume into an order by weight.

    Stone planning questions

    Can this calculate #57 stone or river stone?

    The volume calculation can be used with a specified layer of either material. Enter the depth needed for the application and use the density of that exact product. Grading and stone shape affect suitability and density; the product number is not a depth input.

    How much area does one cubic yard of stone cover?

    Before allowance, one cubic yard covers 324 divided by the depth in inches, in square feet. At 3 inches that is 108 sq ft. This is geometric coverage, not a guarantee that a particular stone size will give an even visual finish.
