    How to use this landscape rock calculator

    Identify the rock product and size range before comparing prices. Different decorative stones have different bulk densities and coverage.

    Measure around plants and hardscape instead of assuming the entire outlined bed will be covered.

    Volume = net area × depth × (1 + extra ÷ 100). Weight = volume × supplier density.

    Landscape rock planning questions

    How do I measure an irregular landscape rock bed?

    Divide the bed into smaller rectangles or circles. Use additional measured area for other sections and exclude planting pockets or paving once. If the depth varies, calculate those sections separately because one shared depth applies to the combined area in this tool.

    Can I compare different landscape rocks with one quantity?

    Compare them at the intended installed depth for each product. Equal weight does not guarantee equal volume or coverage. Save a separate estimate with each product’s density, package size and supplier price so the comparison uses consistent units.

    Can I calculate a circular rock border around an uncovered center?

    Select Circle and enter the outer diameter. Work out the uncovered center’s area separately and enter it in Area to exclude. For an outer diameter of 10 ft and an uncovered inner diameter of 4 ft, net area is π × (5² − 2²), about 65.97 square feet. Use the planned layer depth to convert this area to volume.
