    How to use this paver sand calculator

    This measures bedding sand beneath pavers. Jointing or polymeric sand between pavers needs a product-specific coverage calculation.

    Enter the bedding depth specified by your paving system. The one-inch example is a planning input; follow the manufacturer’s instructions for screeding and compaction.

    Volume = net area × depth × (1 + extra ÷ 100). Weight = volume × supplier density.

    Paver sand planning questions

    Is bedding sand the same calculation as polymeric sand?

    No. This tool calculates the continuous bedding layer below pavers. Polymeric or jointing sand fills the spaces between units and depends on joint width, joint depth and product coverage. Do not use the bedding result as an estimate for jointing sand.

    How much paver sand covers my patio?

    Multiply the patio area by the bedding depth specified for your paving system. A 100 sq ft area at an example depth of 1 inch contains 8.333 cubic feet before allowance, requiring 17 bags of 0.5 cubic feet. The depth is an example, not a specification for every patio.

    How much bedding sand is needed for 100 square feet of pavers?

    At an illustrative 1-inch depth, 100 × 1 ÷ 12 = 8.333 cubic feet before allowance. That is about 0.309 cubic yards or 17 half-cubic-foot bags. Use the bedding thickness specified for your paving system. This is a sand-bed calculation, not a polymeric joint-fill estimate.
