The calculation

Volume = net area × depth × (1 + extra ÷ 100). Weight = volume × supplier density.

  • Enter your supplier’s bulk density to show weight. Volume alone cannot determine tons.
  • 10% extra is included once. Confirm supplier minimums and delivery increments.

    Measure with a little context

    How to use this crusher run calculator

    Crusher run contains a range of particle sizes, including fines. Verify that this product suits the intended drainage and compaction requirements.

    Use the planned finished dimensions, then apply the ordering conversion recommended for your actual material and placement method.

    Volume = net area × depth × (1 + extra ÷ 100). Weight = volume × supplier density.

    A worked example

    With the example values shown below, the calculated result is 1.304 cu yd. These are demonstration inputs, not installation specifications.

    • Length / circle diameter: 12 ft
    • Width: 8 ft
    • Material depth: 4 in
    • Extra allowance: 10 %
    • Volume per bag: 0.5 cu ft

    From estimate to order

    Whole packages and pieces round up; measured lengths, areas and volumes keep full precision during calculation. Match the product dimensions and units to your quote, and check cuts, minimum orders and delivery before purchasing.

    Crusher run planning questions

    Are crusher run and crush and run calculated differently?

    The names often describe similar aggregate products, but local grading can differ. Use the dimensions of your layer for volume and the actual product density for weight. Confirm what the supplier means by the product name before ordering.

    Does crusher run tonnage include compacting the base?

    Tonnage follows the density you enter. Finished compacted dimensions and a loose density should not be mixed without a verified conversion. The extra allowance changes order quantity; it does not calculate equipment, passes or a compaction specification.

    How much crusher run is needed for a rectangular area?

    For an illustrative 20 × 10 ft area at 4 inches, geometric volume is 200 × 4 ÷ 324 = 2.469 cubic yards before allowance. Ask the supplier to relate finished compacted dimensions to the delivered product. The calculator cannot select the base depth or assume that all crusher run has the same density.
