The calculation

Units = ceil(net wall face area × allowance factor ÷ (unit face + joint) module area).

  • One face layer. Special units, mortar and structural components are separate.

    Measure with a little context

How to use this block calculator

Use the exposed face dimensions of the block, not its thickness. Actual dimensions plus the joint form the repeating module.

Special corner, lintel and bond-beam units require a separate takeoff. Grout, mortar and reinforcement are not included.

Units = ceil(net wall face area × allowance factor ÷ (unit face + joint) module area).

    A worked example

With the example values shown below, the calculated result is 75 pieces. These are demonstration inputs, not installation specifications.

    View the example measurements
    • Wall length: 20 ft
    • Wall height: 3 ft
    • Unit face length: 15.625 in
    • Unit face height: 7.625 in
    • Joint allowance: 0.375 in
    • Extra allowance: 10 %

    From estimate to order

Whole packages and pieces round up; measured lengths, areas and volumes keep full precision during calculation. Match the product dimensions and units to your quote, and check cuts, minimum orders and delivery before purchasing.

    Block planning questions

Can I use this for CMU or cinder blocks?

Yes, for a wall-area estimate using the actual face length and height of the selected unit plus its joint. The tool does not assume that all units sold under those names have identical dimensions. Use the supplier’s dimensions for your product.

Does it calculate concrete to fill block cores?

No. Core filling requires the void volume of the specific block, which is not determined by its face dimensions. This tool estimates wall units, not grout, core-fill concrete, mortar, reinforcement or special bond-beam units.
